5 ways to become a better entrepreneur

We all want to be the best entrepreneurs we can be. Whether that’s to make more money, have more time to spend with our loved ones, or get ahead of a competitor, we all have personal goals to live by – but when working for yourself, those goals can be hard to reach.

Below, we’ve put together some top tips if you want to up the ante and take your business to the next level.

Step outside of your comfort zone

No millionaire got to where they are today without taking risks.

It’s important that, if you want to grow as an entrepreneur, you take risks, step outside of your comfort zone and get anxious.

If you don’t, then you’ll end up stuck in a rut and you won’t be inspired to keep working.

Whether that means taking on an extra project, launching a new business venture even if you don’t have the necessary time or capital, or taking out a loan to market your business to more people, just do it.

In time, those risks will pay off and allow you to become more successful.

However, you should be careful not to overdo it.

Too much stress and anxiety can hinder your performance and leave you feeling overwhelmed, so know your limits and don’t push yourself too far.

Oh, and have a business contact, friend or companion who can help if you get stuck.

Read more content

Reading is one of the single most valuable things you can do as an entrepreneur.

Some might assume that they know everything there is to know about their niche, but the best entrepreneurs know that you can always learn new things, whether you’re 18 or 80.

One of the best ways to find new blogs and material to read is through social media.

Be sure to follow influencers and journalists from your niche, and check out the content that they post on a regular basis.

You can use an RSS aggregator to keep all of your material in an email-style box.

There are endless blogs that you should consider reading, from the basics like Entrepreneur, Inc and The Huffington Post, right through to the B2B marketing blog Scalable B2B.

A diverse mix of content from different authors who come from different walks of life will serve you the best.

Learn how to handle distractions

If you work for yourself, distractions can be tough.

Whether a family member knocks on your office door to ask if you want something to eat, or friends are calling you to arrange an afternoon out, it can be tough to stay focused when you’re not in the confines of another person’s office.

If you’re struggling to stay focused, then try to cut out as many distractions as you can.

Turn off your smartphone, add a do not disturb sign to your office door, and limit the time you spend on social media when you should be working.

It might be tough at first, but these changes will soon become habits, allowing you to become a more focused, alert and productive entrepreneur.

Outsource things you don’t want to do

The best entrepreneurs know what they’re good at, and get other people to do the things they don’t want to do.

Just because you’re hustling and trying to make money on your own, that doesn’t mean you can’t outsource things to other people.

Find a freelancer who can help with your marketing, get an accountant to keep track of your books, and use sites like Upwork to find help for one-off projects like web design, app development and other business tasks.

Review your progress regularly

Make sure that you’re on the right track by reviewing your progress on a regular basis.

It can be hard to see where you’re at when you’re in the thick of things, so taking some time out to review your work and see if you’re going in the right direction is key.

You might discover that you need to adapt your strategy because you’re spending too long on one part of your business and not giving yourself time to work on other tasks, for example.

Set aside time once per month, and as your business grows, involve members of staff who can share their thoughts on your strategy.

Becoming the best entrepreneur can be will take time, and mistakes play an important role in that. Whether you’re starting out or you’re already on your way to success, good luck!
